Gill and Ian's Wedding

Gill and Ian tie tie the knot at St. Albans Registry Office. Paul Geedon was Ian's best man. Malcolm Wilkes was also one of Ian's friends who attended. Ian played a practical joke on the two of them by telling them that David, Gill's brother, was a lay preacher. He let David know and he went along with the deception. When they came to Harpenden for the wedding David met them and took them to their digs. He drove and they followed but the place where they were staying wasn't that familiar to David and he took a wrong turn. He knew it was no. 47 so he stopped, got out and started to walk up the path before realising this was definitely the wrong house. He shrugged his shoulders and put his arms out and glanced upwards, turned round and got back in the car. Paul and Malcolm were laughing in the car as they thought he was asking God for help and thought he was a bit eccentric. David found their digs and later met up with them for a drink. David only drank orange juice in their presence and asked them about lager and what it was like. He wondered if he might perhaps try a half. What they didn't know was that every time he went downstairs he was necking a pint or two as quickly as possible before returning with their drinks and his OJ. The deception continued all through the night and the following day and they always addressed him as 'Reverend'. Ian and David couldn't keep it up any longer - mainly because David wanted to have a few pints - and the deception was revealed. The air was blue! The powers of detection of these two coppers were a bit lacking that weekend. To this day whenever 'Reverend' David and Ian bump into Malcolm they have a good laugh about it.
